How to set up a solar panel charging system.
* Select a solid and supportive mounting surface capable of withstanding all expected loads, including pressure imposed by wind and snow
* Secure the solar panel(s) to the surface using the mounting brackets and screws provided (install at least one bracket on every side)
* Remove connector caps
* Do not connect the solar panel directly to the battery - always use a solar panel charge controller
* Connect the charge controller to the battery
* Connect the grey plug of the extension cable to the solar panel connector
* Attach the battery clamp wire or 12V socket wire to the battery
* Connect the other end of this wire to the black plug of the extension cable
* Make sure all 12V system connections are in parallel - i.e. positive (+) to positive (+), negative (-) to negative (-)
If you have more than one solar panel, interconnect the panels using the connector cable provided.

How does a solar system work?
Composed of multiple solar cells in series or in parallel, a solar panel produces direct current (DC) power; when a solar panel is connected to a battery, this power is stored in the battery. A charge controller connected between the solar panel and the battery monitors the battery and prevents the solar panel from overcharging while assuring a complete charge. A solar system requires an inverter when the DC power needs to be converted into alternating current (AC) power to operate appliances or supply power to the utility grid.
